Disiplin, biyoteknolojide bilimsel araştırmaların gen oluşumu alanında mühendislik modifiye edilmiş organizmaların (bitkiler, hayvanlar) yaşamsal faaliyetlerinin kalıtımının kalıplarını ve mekanizmasını, çeşitli sistemleri, bireysel yapısal elemanlarının spesifik özelliklerini, genlerdeki tür değişikliklerini belirler. Disiplinin geliştirilmesi sonucunda, öğrenci, biyolojik nesnelerin moleküler genetik, agrobakterik ve balistik dönüşüm yöntemlerini, biyoteknoloji mühendisliğinin seçimde kullanım olanaklarına dayanarak etkin bir şekilde kullanma becerilerini geliştirir.
