The discipline reveals the leading patterns of mental development of preschoolers, forms ideas about the stages of mental development and psychological characteristics of the child, depending on age. The course forms knowledge about the norms of general and personal development and the psychological content of children of different preschool age. As a result of studying the discipline, students use methods for diagnosing the achievements of pupils, taking into account the theoretical foundations of psychology.
