The purpose of the subject is to systematically describe the development of the language from ancient times to the present day. During the study of the history of the English language, a connection is established between the general principles of linguistics and the facts of the modern English language. For example, it is used to study real phenomena that occurred in the English language at certain stages of its development, in addition to the constant preservation of phonetic properties, with the constant change of sound units. General concepts such as the development of the vocabulary of the language, the development of the grammatical phenomenon, etc., are added to the relevant English phenomena.
